I have included references to the SS Great Britain in two of my books, partly because she has a fascinating history but mainly because she transported more emigrants to the Australian colonies in the nineteenth century than any other vessel. She made her first of 34 passages in 1852 carrying 630 emigrants. There are some images of her in my books. I visited the SS Great Britain in Bristol, where she is now on display after restoration work and took many photographs of the vessel. Some of my photographs are included here.
